Study Break Plans

I've been trying to solidify my travel plans for the study break here as its going to come up really fast- its less than a month away!

About a week after I got here, I spoke to my friend Georgia, on exchange in Hong Kong and we devised a hopeful plan to travel in South East Asia together. I'm really enjoying Australia and in many ways has a lot of similarities to Canada. Which is one of the things that makes it so interesting- discovering the subtle differences. That being said, I really wanted to travel to South East Asia if possible while I'm over here on this side of the ocean. Unfortunately the well intended plan to travel with Georgia was derailed by school deadlines- I suppose we are here for school first right? But by then my heart was set. I was going to find a way to get into South East Asia.

Several summers ago I traveled in Europe on my own for two weeks. While it will forever hold a dear place in my heart and I really enjoyed traveling on my own in many ways, as a woman, I'm not comfortable being in South East Asia on my own. So down an HK travel partner, I started researching other options. Most of the other exchange students have chosen to stay in Oz for reading break, searching out adventure in other parts of the country- so that wouldn't work. Some Uni's here take different breaks so my flat mate and I have different weeks off. But maybe taking something like a Contiki Tour could be the solution. But Contiki is expensive - over $2000 for two weeks in Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos! So I kept looking and finally found myself a good deal.

AND TODAY I BOOKED IT!!

I'm beyond excited for this little interlude of an adventure! And in order to get the best flight I'm actually hoping all over the place.

Here's the tour I'll be going on:

On April 4th I head to Melbourne to catch my flight to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where I'll spend the night. The next morning I'll catch a flight to Hanoi, Vietnam and join up with the rest of the people on my tour. For 12 days I'll head through Laos and then Thailand finishing up in Bangkok. From there I head "home" to Australia through Kuala Lumpur on the way home again (though not overnight). I arrive early morning in Sydney for a few nights in the infamous home of Nemo and clan and the Sydney Opera House. Then back to Adelaide to resume classes for the second half of the semester.

I've made a little map of my trip so if you're interested click on the link here. It goes blue then red then green.

Excited is an understatement :)

Can't wait to share this adventure with you!
