18 days till I leave and it all feels a little bit surreal. Add the Interior Design Show in Toronto and my birthday between now and then, and no doubt it will be a busy last 2.5 weeks.
Aside from a few financial things I need to get in order, I'd say I feel pretty much ready in regards to logistics. And since I sublet my apartment back in December, most of the packing aspect of my preparation has already been done. But a question I always ask myself when I get ready to leave for a new home (whether temporary or indefinite) is how do I make this new space feel like home when all I can bring is a suitcase, and lets face it, I'm going to need most of that packing space for clothing and shoes. I have a few ideas which I no doubt while write about once I get there.
But the thing about missing home is that what you often miss the most are the people. So what's the best remedy for that? Well Skype is a brilliant vehicle for staying in touch as well as face-time for any iUsers. But never underestimate the power of snail mail and little packages filled with love from home. They can be any little bits of things just to show you care or you've been thinking of the person. I've received and sent lots of things including little puzzles, arts and crafts supplies, tea, baked goods (they might not make it to OZ) and always remember a card. So anyone who's moved away for any period of time would agree- a few words on a card sent through the post means a whole lot to the one who's receiving it.
So I have my address in Adelaide and if you want it, leave me a comment and I'll be sure to pass it on to you and you can give me yours in return. Who doesn't want a little something in their mailbox that isn't a bill.
Cheers!
